Anyway, a friend of mine told me this story recently. Here goes, but I don't think I can remember the details very well...
A young lady was waiting to board her flight in the boarding room in a huge airport. As she needed to wait for a long time, she decided to buy a book to ease her boredom. She also bought a packet of cookies.
She sat down on an armchair in a VIP room of the airport, to rest and read. Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down next to her and began to read his magazine.
When she took one cookie, the man took one too. She felt irritated and she thought "What a nerve! If I was in the mood, I would punch him for daring!". For each cookie she took, the man took one too. This was infuriating her but she didn't want to cause a scene.
Finally, there is one cookie left and the lady thought "Ah...What will this abusive man do now?". The man takes the last cookie, divided it into half and giving her one of the half.
Her anger now was at boiling point till she took her belongings and stormed to the boarding place. Upon seating on her seat in her plane, the lady took out her handbag to look for her eyeglasses.
To her surprise, a packet of cookie lay there, untouched, unopened. She realize she was wrong and felt so ashamed of herself. She kept forgotten that she put her cookies in her handbag.
The man had divided her cookies with her without feeling angered or bitter. On the other hand, she had been very angry thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him. And now, there was no chance for her to apologize or explain to him...
How many times in our lives,
have we absolutely known
that something was a certain way,
only to discover later that
what we believed to be true ... was not?
